Botox

Most of us would like to look younger without the cost and pain of having cosmetic surgery. In recent years, BOTOX is quickly gaining popularity because it can offer dramatic changes without surgery or long recovery periods. BOTOX was the top cosmetic procedure performed in 2001, however, it is by no means a new treatment. BOTOX has been used in the ophthalmology world since 1980, treating misalignment of the eyes and eyelid spasms. While it has long been used for treatments in the medical field, it has just recently in the past 10 years been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic purposes. People are loving the benefits that BOTOX can offer.

Botox is a natural, purified protein, which blocks nerve impulses to the muscles that cause wrinkles. When we frown, the skin is gathered into a fold causing a chronic furrow or wrinkle. When botox is injected into the muscles, they relax, and the skin that lies over these muscles smoothes out. Botox can be used for the horizontal frown lines in the forehead, frown lines between the eyes, the “crows feet” around the eyes, and necklines and bands.

It takes the botox three to seven days to work, and will last for three to four months, sometimes longer depending on the patient. Repeat treatments will be necessary to maintain the desired results. You may have some bruising and redness at the injection sites, but this resolves within two to three days. You may cover these areas with makeup.

Other Uses for Botox

Facial Pain and Migraine- Facial pain is often caused by muscle spasm and can be a component to migraines. Treatment of the effected muscles with Botox can often bring a resolution of symptoms. The treatment regime in addition often involves reducing clenching of the teeth by means of a hard dental splint.
